Email How do I decide which email format to send?

You have four Format choices for emailing: Text, HTML, Word or PDF. Each format has different advantages:

  • PDF gives you 100% assurance that the employer will see your resume exactly as you formatted it.
  • WORD is probably the most popular format for email attachments. However, formatting glitches can occasionally appear when the recipient opens it on the other end.
  • HTML is a good choice if you know the recipient can view HTML (not everyone can); it preserves formatting and lets the recipient view the resume right in their email browser without downloading it. 
  • TEXT (also called ASCII text) is a good choice if the company does not accept email attachments (some companies have this policy, for fear of viruses, etc.). This option puts your resume within the body of themail. It also strips out all the formatting (bold, italic, bullets, etc.).
