Can I download into Word?

Yes, you can download your resume or letter as a Word document. Here's how:

  1. With your resume open, click the Download button and then click the icon to Download in Word format.
  2. It will ask if you want to Open or Save. Click Save. Reopen the Word document on your computer. Click Save As, then in the Save as type field, select Word Document from the menu. Then, save the document.
Note: If you click Open instead of Save, your document will be saved in Rich Text Format (RTF) instead of in Word, so always click Save first.
  3. Verify where you want the document to be saved, click Save again, and your Word download is complete!

When you download your Resume or Letter as a Word document, each section appears in an individual text box to ensure that it retains the professional-looking formatting you saw on our site. If you need to make substantial edits, we suggest that you go back and make them in the original online Resume, and then re-download a new Word file.

A Note to Mac users:
If you're downloading to a Mac, you may need to change all the margins in the Word document to 0.00" to get the proper centering on the page.

 Success Story
I responded to a job ad with my own resume and brief cover letter. After a week I heard nothing. Then I found Pongo's site and created a much nicer resume and cover letter and re-sent it to the same employer. A day later she called me and scheduled an interview. At the interview, she told me that she was not going to call me based on my first submission because "it told her nothing about me." She said the second one impressed her and that I should buy lunch for "whoever" helped me with it. I don't know if it will result in a job but it is definitely helping with getting interviews. - Linda B.
