Poll: Are You Using Social Media in Your Job Search?

August 26, 2011 (4:34PM) by Team Pongo

When people mention social media, many people think of it as a place to reconnect with their high school friends, follow their favorite celebrities, or play games. Social media should also be used in your job search. Back in March of 2009, we ran a poll on our site and 11% of the respondents answered “what the heck is social networking.” We hope that percentage has decreased two years later.

You should be using Facebook, Twitter, and/or LinkedIn, to tell everyone you know that you are looking for a new job, to research companies and the people you will be working for, and to ask for recommendations.

Social Networking is a essential part of job searching in the 21st century. And you should be using Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin.

I agree that social media should be used to generate job leads. However, it is my belief that most job seekers are not familiar with the process of using social media.

I would like to share social media job search tips and etiquette with the Pongo readers. This is not your mother’s or father’s job search techniques.

Social networking can be a good lead generator if used correctly ...i.e networking, but as always, be careful in your comments
