When people mention social media, many people think of it as a place to reconnect with their high school friends, follow their favorite celebrities, or play games. Social media should also be used in your job search. Back in March of 2009, we ran a poll on our site and 11% of the respondents answered “what the heck is social networking.” We hope that percentage has decreased two years later. You should be using Facebook, Twitter, and/or LinkedIn, to tell everyone you know that you are looking for a new job, to research companies and the people you will be working for, and to ask for recommendations.
