Hi,
I have a couple of questions:
What should I say on either my cover letter or resume if I would like to relocate to their area due to family.
How can I get employers to consider me if I do not currently live in their area? I'm currently in Arizona and plan on relocating to Washington DC. The positions I would be applying for is sales management. I realize there are probably many other qualified candidates in their local area so I'd love some suggestions. Thank you!

In your COVER LETTER, include a couple sentences stating that you're planning to relocate to DC to be closer to family (giving a reason lets them know that you’re not just desperately applying for jobs all over the country; you truly want to be in DC). If you know when you’ll be moving, add the date, too.
On your RESUME, you can put your current (Arizona) address in the contact information, but add a line in parentheses that says you’ll be relocating soon. For example: (Relocating to Washington, DC, in September 2010)
By letting them know you’re planning to relocate, you can alleviate any initial concerns they might have about you expecting relocation expenses, which might cause them to pass you over at first glance.
(On the other hand, if they fall in love with you and make you a job offer, you should definitely inquire about relocation expenses – you never know!)
Good luck with the move and the job hunt!
