Summer Jobs Aren't Just for Students: Start Looking Now

March 16, 2010 (12:30PM) by Brianna Raymond, CPRW

Summer server positionWe usually think of high school kids or college students when we think of summer jobs. But if you’re unemployed or need some extra income, the summer job market may be for you. Sure, you might end up working side-by-side with teenagers, but these jobs are open to people of all ages and career levels. And if you don't mind working nights or weekends, you'll have an advantage over all the kids who don’t want to let work interfere with their social time.

Even though we're just getting into the warmer temps of spring, most companies finish their summer hiring by May. What kinds of places might be hiring? Nurseries (think: plants), ice cream stands, fruit and vegetable stands, farms, touristy souvenir shops, summer camps, and so on.

So if you're looking for extra cash and a job to fill some free time, check out these job boards that specifically list part-time positions:

You can also search for summer jobs on the big-name job boards, too. (If you're a Pongo member, use our job search tool to search all the top job boards and company web sites at once for jobs with "part-time," "summer," or "seasonal" in the title.) Here are some job boards to try an advanced search on:

What was your favorite summer job when you were in high school or college? Leave it in a comment!
