What Motivates You to Do Your Best at Work?
March 11, 2010 (4:05PM) by Rick Saia, CPRW
Some adults find it difficult to place their feet on the floor after the alarm clock goes off in the morning. Others can't wait to spring into action. And others wake up without emotion, knowing it will be "just another day at the office."
Those are three brief but different pictures of personal motivation. Each of us has to have some reason to get up every day and go to work. For some, the motivation is financial: making the money to provide for a family and socking some away for retirement. For others, it's the thrill of accomplishing something worthwhile and taking pride in it.
That leads me to ask this question: What one thing motivates you to do your best at work? Tell us in a comment below, and I hope the answers generate a healthy discussion.

My own reputation motivates me to do my best at work. It includes everything I do or don't do, how I behave, and how I treat people. If I don't like my work or enjoy going to work, I should be either dealing with it in a constructive way or looking for a new job.

@ Tracey -- Thanks! I tell the same thing to my son and daughter.
@ RBN -- Everyone should wake up everyday looking to make a difference - either small or large. Thanks!
@ Nonie -- We're viewed in different ways in different settings. But at work, it's that professional reputation that will help or hinder a career. Each of us needs to recognize our reputation, which can help define our value in the workplace. Thanks for dropping in!
