Pongo Resume Urges Job Seekers: Stick with New Year's Resolution to Find a Job
NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. — Was one of your New Year's resolutions to land a new job? Pongo Resume, the premier, full-service online resource for job seekers, says don't give up if you haven't yet found that job! Stick to your goal.
That's the message you'll hear today as Pongo is featured on IWearYourShirt.com, a web site that promotes one business live on the web each day. IWearYourShirt team members will be wearing Pongo Resume t-shirts and telling job seekers to stick with their New Year's resolution to find a job.
"When January 1 rolls around, people who want new jobs are often excited because they believe a new year marks a fresh start," says Rodney Capron, President and CEO of Pongo. "But by February, if there have been no bites, it’s easy to get discouraged and lose motivation.”
"It’s natural to want things to happen quickly, but statistics tell us the average job search these days takes six to eight months. Fortunately, there are steps job seekers can take to give themselves the very best chance and hopefully beat those statistics."
Here are five things job seekers can do to optimize their job search effectiveness:
- Keep your resume up to date. Don’t wait until you find a job posting to update it. Be prepared so you only have to tweak it a little when an opportunity comes up.
- Know what to expect. Boost your confidence and knowledge by researching the questions interviewers typically ask, and preparing answers that help show your potential value.
- Practice interviewing before the interview. A job interview is one-shot, make-or-break opportunity. If you’re just winging it, you can talk yourself right out of the job. Have a friend or family member practice with you until you feel truly ready.
- Network, network, network. Stay on top of your LinkedIn profile and don’t be shy about telling people you’re seeking opportunities. If they don’t know of job openings, ask if they know someone in your field who might have advice to offer.
- Focus on the employer’s needs. They don’t want to hear what you want; they want to know what you can do for their business. So, explain how you would be a good fit.
